Instruction for all ages

Our organization is about the young, the old, and carrying on the tradition of fiddle music. A number of our talented members are also instructors. If you have a desire to learn the instruments of the American fiddle tradition, we may be able to help. Listed below are active members of our organization who teach some of the core instruments used in our musical style.

Mike Iverson

Instruments: clawhammer banjo, bluegrass banjo, mandolin & guitar

Options: private weekly lessons, occasional “personal workshops”, and internet lessons (via Skype or FaceTime). For those who are interested in clawhammer banjo (and are the self motivated type), you can learn to play for free using the Tab & Instruction section of Mike’s website (found under the “Progressive Clawhammer” heading. The Hales Family

Location: Pleasant View Area
Instruments: Fiddle, piano, guitar, banjo, mandolin

Cindy Hales and her family provide musical instruction on fiddle, piano, guitar, banjo and mandolin. They teach in the bluegrass and celtic style and also have group rates. The Hales also have a family band and are available for performances.

Heather Blaisdell

Location: Ogden Area
Instruments: violin

Heather Blaisdell is a teacher, with over 20 years of experience playing the violin. She has both classically training and fiddling experience. Her main emphasis has been in Celtic and traditional American fiddle tunes. Lessons involve learning to read music, memorizing tunes, playing by ear, learning chords and backup techniques, and improvisation.
